Depression And Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety

If you’re struggling with issues in your career or a significant relationship, depression or anxiety may be part of the reason. Psychotherapist Lisa Molisani offers therapy and counseling to Berkeley Heights, NJ, and the surrounding areas to help unlock the root cause and address clients’ challenges at the source.

Anxiety, Depression, and Their Impact

We all struggle with challenges in life. When we do, it's easy to look at the external factors and think they are the issue. For example, if you have difficulty at work, it's easy to pinpoint everything that’s wrong with the job, coworkers, and other factors.

There is no arguing that external factors can play a role and that they can make things difficult to deal with. However, you may have an internal factor that is making it harder for you to adapt. And when that is the case, no job, relationship, house, or other external factor will ever be easy.

Anxiety and depression are two internal struggles that can impact everything involved in our lives. Below, psychotherapist Lisa Molisani of Berkeley Heights, NJ, and surrounding areas explains some effects the two have.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety is identified as constant worry, fear, or living on guard. Depression is characterized as feeling constantly sad or hopeless. They are two different issues, but the symptoms often overlap. Some of these symptoms include:

  • Irritability
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Never feeling like you’re enough or that you’ve done enough
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Stomach problems

Other symptoms can include feeling worthless, thoughts of self-harm, feeling guilty, and isolating yourself.

Direct and Indirect Impacts

Considering the symptoms above, it’s easy to see how either condition could make managing a healthy, productive life difficult. Both can create work and career issues, as they can make it difficult to concentrate on what needs to be done. Feeling worthless or constant worry may have you saying yes to too many projects or never working toward the career you actually want. You can also have trouble getting to work at all and being productive when you get there.

You might also experience relationship issues. These conditions make it hard to get close to others, feel worthy of love, set healthy boundaries, and even trust your partner.

These are just a few examples of the impact, but both issues can permeate every area of your life. Therapy and counseling can help you overcome them, though, and live a life you’ll love.
